Statement by ATACH on Vaping Related Illnesses

    News

WASHINGTON, D.C. – ATACH released the following statement:

“ATACH is deeply concerned regarding recent headlines of illnesses associated with vaping and continues to monitor developments as additional information emerges. While no single vaping device, liquid or ingredient has yet to be identified linking the cases, ATACH continues to monitor the work of health officials and warns consumers about the dangers of purchasing products from unlicensed and unregulated producers.

“The primary focus of ATACH and its members is the health and safety of consumers. ATACH supports efforts by officials to identify potential causes of the incidents and take action to prevent them from further occurring. ATACH believes it is essential to gather all the facts in order to make informed policy recommendations and identify any actions needed to improve public safety.

“While questions have been raised regarding the role of products from the illicit market, ATACH has worked aggressively with regulators and international organizations in developing standards for the regulated market. ATACH continues to advocate that businesses adhere to these stringent manufacturing practices, quality standards and testing.

“ATACH continues to work directly with law enforcement and the Policy Center for Public Health and Safety to promote consumer safety and encourage conversations about curtailing the illicit market through responsible regulation.”
